Jeremy wants to film movies and win the Oscar Award (February 12, 2003)
So where has Jeremy been up to since his disappearance from the music industry after 1995? Apparently he went to pursue his dream in the film directing career at the New York University, gaining a Master's Degree through his studies. To date, he has written several scripts but hasn't found an investor yet. He emphasizes that finding suitable actors/actresses for the roles is important. His goal is to win the Oscar award one day.
Although he spends a fair amount of time in film making he hasn't entirely abandoned music. Jeremy says, "Making a record is like bringing out the diary of my life experiences and my perception of love for everyone to read." He frequently composes and writes commercialized songs for other singers. He feels that mandarin songs hasn't caught up with international standards yet. He hopes that one day true Chinese music can be appreciated by the western world.
MY says:
The first half of this article talks about Dave Wong's return to the music industry. Although most points may not be related to Jeremy's return, but I found some interesting enough to deserve some attention. The article mentions how audiences prefer a singer's past image as oppose to the singer's current image. This is very understandable especially when the advertisements coming out before a singer's actual reappearance show only their photos from a decade or two ago. These singers may not have ever appeared in person in the mainland during their years of fame. No wonder the mainland audiences were shocked when they saw the singers in person.
As with appearance, a singer's voice will change over time. Singing the same song from 10 years ago will not sound the same 10 years after. Also take note that when singing live, not every note is perfect unlike a song on an album which has gone through numerous recordings to perfection before being put on the market.
The challenge now for these returning singers is to veer their audiences to accept their new current image, voice and style of singing, but at the same time remind them that they are still the same blood and flesh idol which they adored years ago. Dave says, "Unlike nowadays, back in those days, there was no packaging, singers had freedom to appear as themselves." Those "idol" singers will have to work extra hard on their new image to win back and gain new fans, especially with the added competition with the younger generation. Those "strength" singers need not worry since they never depended on their good looks on the road to fame. Jeremy, well I see nothing for him to worry about, as a composer, songwriter and singer, he's pretty well self-reliant. All he needs is to be able to get his masterpieces to the listener's ears and he is on his way. In fact, it looks like some his fans find him quite huggable now at his current age.

Jeremy has moved from Hong Kong to Beijing but wants to settle in Greece?
Chang Hung Liang makes Hong Kong his home (October 25, 2004)
SING TAO - Chang Hung Liang and Ng Kwok Ging were special guests at a bar show in Hong Kong. Chang says he's made Hong Kong his permanent home. He's been busy touring in China lately and aggressively learning Cantonese in the hopes of furthering his career in the peninsula. Chang's apprentice Karena Lam just announced she's dating record exec Chan Kwok Wing, and the singer wishes the couple the very best.
Moving to Beijing, wants to settle down in Greece (October 16, 2006)
Jeremy has rented a place in Beijing and is planning to stay there for 6 months. He is slowly moving his belongings from Hong Kong to Beijing. He says that when he gets married, he hopes to settle in Greece. "Beijing is not a very romantic place. I really hope to get married in one of the small islands in Greece. It must be very romantic. This is not all talk. It could be a possiblity. Just that I don't have that much money right now."
MY says:
Sure Jeremy, Greece may be romantic but it's up there at No. 89 with a mere Chinese population of 229 out of a total of 10.7 million people. Are you absolutely sure you want to go there? Would language be a problem? How about the food? Eating Greek food as oppose to Chinese food? Does Greece import Chinese vegetables, fruits, canned goods, dried goods and sauces? Internet is not a problem, but how about Chinese television and radio news, series and movies?

The Guitar, the Piano and "Hiroshima Love"
(News taken from December 2007)
This year, Jeremy spent his Christmas day (Dec 25/2007) in Hangzhou, China where he was invited to perform at the new 5-star Goethe Hotel. Commenting on his given title of "Prince of Love Songs", he says that he doesn't appreciate this name. He asks, "Why do people always want to see me play the piano? I'm quite good at the guitar too!" Eventhough the plan was for him to play the piano and sing, he still wished that he could play the guitar for his audience. "If someone brought up a guitar, I will sing for them. Or at least let me play the bamboo flute or other flutes." His upcoming plan is to make an Hokkien album.
MY says:
Jeremy, Jeremy, you have to understand where these requests are coming from. The MV for your "Guang Dao Zhi Lian" (Hiroshima Love) shows you playing the piano. You have successfully made that deep impression in your audiences' mind. Everytime your current teenage female fans hear this song, they will envision you playing that piano just like in that MV. They will live with it, eat with it, sleep with it and dream with it until their next target idol appears.
Most teenagers will go through the "idol" phase. This goes for both males as well as females. An idol to a teenager ranges from an imaginary lover, an imaginary older brother/sister or an imaginary friend. They may imagine talking with their idol about their troubles or sharing their dreams, or just being close to them for comfort. An idol's appearance and words will directly influence his or her fans. I remember one veteran actress stating that an idol's words to a teenager can sometimes be stronger than any parent's, teacher's or politican's.
In my opinion, there is absolutely nothing wrong this phase. Some people grow out of it, some stay with it for life, including this "idol" in their daily lives. It is healthy as long as the "imagination" does not go overboard. Many a time, we hear of suicides or depression from fans that find out that their idol is not really the "perfect" person as they have imagined. Learn to accept that your idol is human and don't put on high expectations, with this in mind you'll learn to enjoy every moment of the journey.
Curious of what MY thinks? Well, as for me, it was the guitar playing that lured me to Jeremy's songs. I used to play the guitar during my teenage years, but somehow I managed to discard all my musical knowledge. To be honest, I can't even read music anymore. Don't ask me why, I must have blocked this phase of life out of my mind for some reason. I rarely listen to music, but some things just never disappear -- that little tingle in my heart whenever I hear those guitar strings. I've always admired people who do things themselves, the self-reliant type. Somehow the combination of composing music, songwriting, singing and guitar strings brings to mind the ideal idol. I'm not a rock fan, so eliminate that half of the world. I'm left with this other half which just happens to include Jeremy. Needless to say, my favourite song by Jeremy is "Zui Ren" (Sinner). That short guitar piece just drowns me.

Jeremy is an unwed daddy?
(News taken from July 2005)
Well, what do you know, Jeremy is already a daddy! His Lithuanian girlfriend gave birth to a baby girl in January 2005. He kept all this news in low profile. By the time the reporters found out, his little girl was already 7 months old. Jeremy will be spending most of his time in China, composing music and writing his book. His little one is currently residing in Lithuana under the care of his girlfriend. He goes to visit her when he has time.
MY says:
Hmmm... just doing a calculation, she came to visit him in April 2004...noddy, noddy Jeremy. Does anyone have a picture of his little darling?

How does Jeremy divide up his life?
(News taken from June 2006)
Apparently, Jeremy is a person with mulitiple identities. Each year he'll spend a few months as a dentist, a few months promoting his album, a few months traveling around the world and a few months working on his film. He is also spends time writing his book. He says becoming a dentist is his parents' wish, music is his interest and filming is his dream. Other people may find it odd that he is a dentist, but he doesn't find it a least bit odd. In fact, he quite enjoys chatting with his patients, who range from young to old, during his 3-day week working at the clinic. Chatting with them actually helps him open up.
MY says:
He must be superman. I really want to ask Jeremy if he actually gets tired once in a while.
